Named for the U.S. senator who died in a plane crash nearby, the refuge is a wooded oasis amidst the city’s concrete landscape. Visitors can explore 10 miles of trails—either through guided nature walks or on their own—and explore a rich diversity of fish, wildlife and plants native to the Delaware River Watershed. Visitors can even go “off-road” if they bring a kayak or canoe and paddle down the 4.5 mile tidal segment of Darby Creek that flows through the refuge. Follow the Refuge on Facebook and Instagram for the most updated information and events.
