Best Eats for Delco-Style Outdoor Parties
Outdoor party season seems to have expanded, even as the (shhh!… dare we say it?) pandemic seems to wane. Why? Because they’re awesome! Fresh air, sunshine, maybe a good shade tree or two, possibly a tent, a few cornhole setups plus great food and drink, and you’re set.
We’ve fired up our share of grills and respect the barbecue! But when the cook also wants to enjoy it, we turn to Delco’s go-to backyard (and park, and tailgate) caterers. You work hard; have someone else do the cooking.
So many options on this catering menu! Don’t let the word “corporate” fool you: it’s catering for all with fresh, locally sourced fare. This husband-and-wife team brings 30 years of restaurant experience to a menu that’s a mix of hearty and healthy, with considerations made for those with gluten allergies, as well as keto- and paleo-friendly options. We like the wake-up platters, because who doesn’t like breakfast all day? If you’re hosting a larger crowd, then choose the BBQ package and consider springing for the grill master! Pro tip: Whether you require it or not, sample the gluten-free bread.
3841 West Chester Pike Newtown Square, (484) 909-3284.
This is a one-stop destination for when you’re looking for a wide range of homestyle Italian and continental cuisine. There’s an abundance of menus from which to choose, but we like the a la carte for smaller gatherings, and the off-premise for its setups and server options. Don’t miss the dips (baked crab is a must), the brunch options and the extensive seafood entrees. Make sure to ask about monthly specials!
405 Meetinghouse Rd., Boothwyn, (610) 485-2010.
We have two words for you: boxed lunch. What a fantastic way to customize so everyone gets what they want! Dig into the boxed lunch choices that each include a side of homemade pasta salad (or potato chips), a freshly baked cookie, fresh whole fruit, utensils, mint, a Wet-Nap and a selection of regular or diet soda, iced tea or bottled water. Looking for something else? This family-owned and -operated catering business (since 1993!) offers breakfast, buffet, cocktail party and more menu choices.
29 S. Morton Ave., Morton, (610) 544-1755.
This sister restaurant of Springfield’s Thunderbird II makes it easy to get your catering: You can pick up at either spot! Here, the food is inspired by the northern California fresh food vibe, but no worries — it’s sized right for hungry Delco denizens. The sauces are the secret sauce here, such as freshly made salsas, like pico de gallo, green tomatillo, red guajillo pepper, plus chipotle crema and more. They’re just right with burritos, nacho melts, salads and tacos. Get the box of chips and pico off the catering menu, marvel at the endless list of add-ons (roasted street corn, for the win!) and rolettes of chicken or steak tingas, or Southwestern.
Looking for fresh and seasonal, sourced from local farms? Or an amazing pretzel display? Check, and check! Enjoy a full culinary experience from a seasoned chef (think corporate kitchens and luxury hotels) tailored to fit the needs of your event and food preferences, whether you’re hosting a post-wedding brunch or a tailgate. The single-serve menu is a favorite (especially for picky friends and family!) that’s available for next-day pick up. Make sure to peruse the taco and burrito bar and pig roast menus, too
350 W. State St., Media, (267) 581-7533
This catering menu reflects more than three decades of tried-and-true customer favorites — what more could you ask for? Homemade and prepared on-site daily using only the freshest ingredients, too, each menu is individually tailored for your taste and budget. Wow your party guests with Delco hits, such as crab and artichoke dip, prosciutto-wrapped scallops or shrimp, shepherd’s pie, grilled Italian sausage and peppers, lasagna, sour cream mashies, and so much more. Dietary restrictions and preferences are handled to perfection, too.
10 Park Ave., Swarthmore, (610) 328-9360.
They had us at sriracha deviled eggs from the tapas mix-and-match menu! But this family-owned gem — since 1988! — also turns out scratch-made ethnic cuisine (Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Caribbean, Creole, Italian and Mediterranean) and is able to satisfy those who require gluten-free, vegan, low fat, vegetarian … you name it. Check out sacks (individual meals), sandwiches and wraps, backyard barbecue and brewpub favorites, breakfast, A.M. and P.M. snacks, among others. Last-minute request? No problem.
940 W. Valley Rd., Ste. 2001, Wayne, (610) 971-9993.
This Italian deli has been serving choosy Delco hoagie eaters for more than 25 years, and for good reason. How about four takes on the Italian hoagie, plus six more giant sandwiches named after Italian towns and regions? All hoagies are made with lettuce, tomato, onion, extra-virgin olive oil and spices (unless noted on the menu). It’s not all they do, so check the catering menu for appetizers, veggies and salads, pasta and entrees. More than 25 on the guest list? Consider the catered party special menu.
3523 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, (610) 353-4543.
Dessert is a no-brainer at any party. Here, the custom cakes are off the hook, but so are the cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, pies, parfaits, brownies, muffins and breads! That’s because they’re all-natural, like real butter (no shortening), whole milk that’s free of hormones, sea salt, fresh eggs, beet sugar, pure vanilla, aluminum-free baking powder and unbleached flour. Get ready to rejoice because there are vegan and gluten-free options, too. We don’t think we have to tell you to “save room for dessert” but … save room! Worth it!
16 S. Lansdowne Ave., Lansdowne, (484) 461-3793.
Where to Find Even More
