Staycation New Year’s Eve With Delco Food Takeout Options

Not into the New Year’s Eve scene? Just plain tired this year? Maybe you’re on pick-up duty for your teenager? Whatever the reason, let us be the first to tell you it’s OK to stay in on New Year’s Eve. Give yourself a staycation night, and skip the cooking — it is a holiday, after all!

You can’t go wrong in Delco with these food takeout recommendations, whether you choose Chinese, as made famous by the “Ralphie movie” (the 1983 classic A Christmas Story), or go fancy with seafood, or get a really filling option, like pizza and hoagies. We’ve pulled together three winning options we know are open for takeout on New Year’s Eve, and we’re also sharing a few links to some of our absolute takeout favorites. Pro tip: Call ahead early (even a few days early) to make sure your order can be handled on such a busy holiday.

Get inspired, give these Delco takeout locations a call, and be sure to check close times, too, and make New Year’s Eve staycation a thing this year. Then sit back, relax and toast the new year from your comfy couch!

Chinese

To be clear, Margaret Kuo’s Media and Wayne offers elevated Northern Chinese and Japanese cuisine that just so happens to be available for takeout, including on New Year’s Eve! The choices are vast (yet slightly different at both Media and Wayne) and will satisfy any whim, from a sushi platter to Peking duck. We’ve got you covered, too, if you’re in the mood for other ethnic cuisine, or perhaps you’re hungry to step outside your foodie comfort zone and try something new. Remember to call ahead to ask about any specials.

6 W. State St., Media, (610) 688-7200 and 175 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, (610) 688-7200.

Seafood

If you’re looking to feed a seafood-loving crowd, then Frank’s Seafood should be your first stop. Not only will you find tempting steamed seafood platters and combo platters for everything, from shrimp to Dungeness crab to lobster (and veggies, too!), but there is also a special party menu for large orders. This is gourmet seafood that doesn’t disappoint! Note that Frank’s closes at 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, so order early and plan to pick up early. Looking for other neighborhood gems for seafood takeout, or a few around-the-world choices? We’ve mentioned lots of options in previous blogs, but be sure to call the establishments first to make sure they’re offering takeout on NYE!

Pizza

Fresh, hot and delivered to your door — and, you can order online. What could be easier, especially if your New Year’s Eve attire consists of sweat pants, an Eagles (or Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, Soul or Union) jersey and slippers? Cocco’s Pizza Xpress is open on the Eve and offers a lot more than pizza: stromboli’s, wings, hoagies, salads — the works! There are Cocco’s all over the county, plus these other must-try pizza joints, so check for what’s local to you and call for hours.
