Next to Normal’ opens February 7th at the Players Club of Swarthmore

This sensational American rock musical explores the result of one woman’s struggle with worsening bipolar disorder – and the effect of the illness on her entire family. It is a contemporary story about a family riding the emotional rollercoaster of mental illness, and the impact it has on each person.

Not a traditional Valentine story, by any means, it illustrates how a family’s deep and abiding love that can be both as strong as any other – and just as vulnerable. This is a rare musical tribute to the unique trials that face families touched by mental illness.

ABOUT THE SHOW: The musical opened on Broadway in April 2009. It was nominated for 11 Tony Awards that year and won 3: Best Original Score, Best Orchestration, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming only the eighth musical in history to receive the honor.
