Hedgerow Presents Chekhov's "Three Sisters"
This exceptional show opens February 6th and runs through March 3rd. Here are some thoughts on Chekhov from show’s Director, Harriet Power…
“Not only was Chekhov the first playwright to make the tiny, seemingly casual nuances of human interaction his focus – he remains the playwright who does it with the drollest humor, and the deadliest yet most loving accuracy…A keen observer of human nature, Chekhov did not judge us. He felt every bit as awkward, ardent, hungry, blind, goofy, and hopeful as we are.”
Power also points out: In Three Sisters, Masha, the unhappily married middle sister, falls in love with the handsome head of the army (also unhappily married), and the sheer force and vibration of their passion is as terrifying – and timeless – as it is seductive. Chekhov challenges us with his portrayal of this passion: do we have it in our own lives? Would we want it? Could we sustain it in a marriage rather than an illicit affair? Scary, seductive stuff!
