When it’s too cold and dreary to venture outside, head for the Wayne Art Center where there are 8 fun and exciting classes and workshops, for drawing, cooking, jewelry making and even tiny gnome sculpting!

January 11th, 1-3pm
Sign up for a creative workshop: Hammered Copper Stack Rings, for ages 12 plus.
Learn the basics of working with Copper using various traditional jeweler’s tools and techniques. You will cut, solder, form and finish your very own hammered ring with two different hammer textures to choose from. FYI: Wear sneakers or boots, tie back long hair and avoid loose fitting clothes in the studio.$50pp includes materials.

January 16th, 5-7pm
Come to a Designer Open House! Enjoy light fare and beverages while mingling with designers, architects, builders and other industry professionals for a casual evening of networking, while browsing nearly 200 museum-quality contemporary craft works that have been juried and curated from all over the world. This event is all about family time, combining Story & Art for a memorable experience. Bring your little ones as Kim Williams reads “A Loud Winter’s Night” by Katie Hudson. This family-fun tale ends with a creative and unique art project about the book! For ages 3-9, $25 per family.

January 19th, 1-3pm
Brush up’ on your skills at this teen workshop: Whimsical Watercolors
Join Louise Dusinberre in the studio to create a work of art while learning watercolor skills and brush stylings. From a still life composition you’ll experiment with both watercolor and permanent marker. Master basic techniques and complete a frame-worthy painting in two hours. $50pp

January 24th & January 31st, 9:30am-12:30pm
Let your inner artist come out in a relaxed, 2-Friday Traditional Drawing Workshop. It’s a perfect creative nudge for beginners and many experienced artists who may want to brush up on the basics, as well. Explore form and values and learn to draw what you see. $90 members/$105 non-members

January 25th– January 26th, 10 am – 4 pm
Make like Sia and “Fire Away” as you pierce, saw and connect rivets into a masterpiece of Titanium Jewelry! This 2 day Jewelry Workshop trains students in how to draw visual concepts on paper then develop them into metal objects using the techniques of piercing, sawing and cold connecting with rivets. (sample photo above) Coloring techniques of titanium will also be explored. $240 member, $265 non-member

Enter a Miniature World: Making Tiny Gnomes!
In Scandinavia, a nisse or gnome, is a mythological creature from Nordic folklore associated with the winter solstice and season. They have long white beards, wear a conical in red or another bright color. In this fun, miniature world workshop, your child will create two mini winter gnomes. You will create and glaze your gnomes during the workshop and will be able to pick them up on February 8th. Take your gnomes home to warm up your winter! For ages 7+, $35pp

Get cookin! Starting with Philly Restaurant Favorites 🙂
Chef Karen Bentz will show students how to make favorite recipes from Iconic Philly Restaurants! You’ll create four courses from different restaurants, current and former. Enjoy it as a demonstration or participate and get actively involved in the cooking. Either way, you’ll learn new culinary techniques and indulge in delicious new dishes! $70pp
