December 1st UDPAC whisks you back to the 70’s with “Merry Christmas, Darling: Carpenter’s Christmas.”
Karen and Richard Carpenter were a brother and sister instrumental and vocal duo that took the American music scene by storm even though their sound was distinctive for being soft and sensuous.
They sold over a hundred million records in just over a decade and still hold the record for the most consecutive top-ten singles. They also recorded two holiday albums and starred in two TV holiday specials. Their holiday music is played every season and their Christmas records still top “Favorite Holiday Album” lists every year, even charting on the Billboard Top 100 as recently as 2015.
Hear their music come to life, performed by Michelle Berting Brett accompanied by her 7-piece band of Nashville musicians directed by Harry Sharpe. Michelle shares stories about Karen and Richard’s life and career as well as Christmas remembrances. She and the band re-create those classic Carpenters’ holiday arrangements along with many of their biggest hits.
This musical trip down memory lane reminds us that Karen’s voice and Richard’s compositions and arrangements created Grammy winning magic and won them a worldwide legion of loyal fans. Showtime is 3pm and tickets are $40 – $45.
