Summer is right around the corner and there is no shortage of summer camps right here in Delaware County’s Destination Delco. We’ve rounded up a few options sure to satisfy campers of all ages and interests.

 

 

NEWLIN GRIST MILL NATURE-BASED SUMMER DISCOVERY CAMPS

Summer Discovery at Newlin Grist Mill offers history and nature-based experiences in an engaging outdoor environment. Exploration.  Learning.  Friendship.  Fun.  Campers will be immersed in a unique community that encourages them to follow their passions and discover the world around them. They aren’t afraid to let kids get dirty while learning new skills, trying new things, and expanding their abilities. Whether looking for tadpoles, creating cloud-inspired art, making ice cream, floating boats, or meeting a box turtle, campers are encouraged to be curious and play in creative, nature-inspired ways. COLONIAL PENNSYLVANIA PLANTATION DAY CAMPS

Historic adventures await day campers at the 18th Century Plantation located in Ridley Creek State Park.  They offer exciting and unusual ways for children to spend a week of summer through hands-on activities like open hearth cooking, farming, animal care and authentic crafts.  History will literally come to life as they are immersed in a host of colonial era activities in fun, imaginative, and educational ways. TYLER ARBORETUM SUMMER CAMPS

Tyler Arboretum’s Summer Camps connect children with nature and its many unique and diverse ecosystems. Enthusiastic, highly-qualified staff and low student/teacher ratios facilitate fun, interactive learning through nature and stewardship projects, plus games, naturalist-led learning sessions, crafts, and hikes.  Camp Experiences include a Family Camping Excursion (ages 5+); Explorers (grades 1-5); Naturalists (grades 6-8); Adventurers (grades 9-12).  Teen camps are designed to challenge campers with awesome outdoor experiences. Spend Monday at Tyler Arboretum doing all the things that you love, then spend the rest of the week traveling to different local areas on both day trips and overnight trips. Campers walk away from this week with a newfound confidence, strong friendships and an appreciation for nature.

 

MEDIA THEATRE OFFERS SUMMER CAMPS FOR ALL AGES

Media Theatre 25th Anniversary

With one 2-week Camp Session already filled, four others remain including a Teen summer camp musical production of Pippin for campers 12 to 18 years of age.  With an unforgettable score from four-time Grammy winner, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary.   This camp production includes 2 weeks of rehearsal with professional directors and designers, June 17 through July 5.   There are 4 weekend performances for the public on stage at the Media Theatre. HEDGEROW THEATRE SCHOOL OFFERS 6 SUMMER CAMPS

There are 2 full Production Show Camps of about a month, and 4 Week-long Camps teaching a variety of performance skills:  Mary Poppins Jr.- July 8th through 28th.  This production teaches core skills of creating character and vocal expression. Frozen, Jr. is August 5th-25th. Campers are taught core skills of physical expression and building ensemble.

Weekly Production Camps are:  Pirate Adventure Week – August 5th through 9th.  Campers will sail the high seas to track down the final resting place of the great pirate treasure! Witches and Wizards Week – August 12th-16th. Participants learn to cast spells and create magical worlds of their own! Whodunnit? Follow the Clues Week – August 19th-23rd. Campers join the ranks of Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo and the Gang! Myths and Legends Week – August 26th-30th. DARLINGTON ARTS CENTER FULL & HALF DAY CAMP ADVENTURES

Camp sessions feature all art forms: music – art – dance – drama! The goal is to inspire students ages 3-14 to think creatively about the world around them and express themselves through the visual and performing arts.  There are both Full Day Camps and Half Day Camps: Full Day Camps are for ages 5-12, and are 9am to 3pm M-F.    Half Day Camps for ages 3-12 are 9am to noon, M-F  Full Day Camps for ages 5-14 are 9am to  3pm. UPPER DARBY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER SUMMER PROGRAMS

UDPAC’s Summer Stage program is renowned throughout the state as one of the finest youth production camps in the region.  Since 1976 it has been empowering young people and entertaining families, becoming the nationally recognized gold-standard for youth theater programs.  Children take classes in singing onstage, musical theater dance, acting, improvisation and storytelling through games and fun exercises taught by a qualified and supportive staff. Theater Bugs is for kids finishing 4th grade – Magic Makers is for those finishing 5th or 6th grade – Rising Stars is for those finishing 7th grade, Children’s Technical Theatre and Main Stage Sessions are for those finishing 8th grade through High School.  Shooting Stars is for ages 13+, and Mainstage is for ages 18+.  Read about all of the amazing programs here.

 

WAYNE ART CENTER SUMMER ARTS CAMP    

This is the 35th Anniversary Wayne’s artful Summer Camp featuring a variety of classes in a relaxed, supportive environment that combines serious learning with serious fun.   Participants ages 3 – 16 can enroll for any of 12 weekly sessions, beginning June 3rd.   This year’s theme, “Nature and Art:  Connecting with Our World,” is the basis for over 100 classes, so parents can tailor the camp experience for their child.  Grouped by age, campers are presented with a variety of media as they build skills in drawing and painting, ceramics, collage, sculpture, photography, fashion design, robotics, Minecraft® , jewelry making — even drama and cooking.  Choose from half-day, full-day, and late afternoon classes. COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER’S SUMMER SPREE VISUAL ARTS CAMP   

For more than thirty years, Summer Spree at Wallingford’s Community Arts Center (CAC) has been the ultimate experience for children ages 4 – 11 who want to have fun and be creative.  This year, campers will explore the theme WIDE WORLD, investigating the natural and cultural worlds not just on Planet Earth but in Outer Space as well, and even designing their own realities!  Half-Day sessions are scheduled from 9 – 12 and 1 – 4, both indoors and out, and can be combined consecutively.  Each camp runs from Monday through Friday, beginning on June 24 and ending August 23.  For more information visit:   Community Arts Center Summer Camp Details. 

 

CAMP GARRETT SUMMER CAMP IN NEWTOWN SQUARE

Situated on 240 acres of beautiful farmland in Newtown Square since  1912, this day camp boasts a variety of activities including swimming, art, archery, sports, hiking, gardening, to name a few.   Emphasizing health, collaboration, and respect for others and the outdoors, the camp welcomes all children, ages 5 through 15, regardless of background or income. DELAWARE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUMMER KIDS CAMP 

DCCC camp experiences combine specialized learning and creativity with plain old fun! Beginning July 8, and running through August 8, kids ages 6 through 14 participate in programs that include: Code Breakers, Minecraft® Modders and Drone Adventures (all new for 2019), plus the always popular Calling All Chefs, Lego Films, Art Workshop, Music and Voice Production, Pop Star, Acting, Golf and more.
