Delco’s Top Sushi Spots — Round 1

Did you know there are different takes on sushi? It’s a traditional Japanese dish, but of course our Delco favorites often put their own spin on it.

Another fact: sushi isn’t just raw fish. There’s something for everyone, with cooked, vegetable, vegan and gluten-free options. Just ask when you make reservations or order takeout.

Lots of options in Delco? That’s how we roll (pun intended!). Stay tuned for Round 2 of our sushi roundup!

Azie on Main

This award-winning restaurant mixes traditional Japanese with contemporary — new Asian at its best. Try signature rolls, like surf-and-turf with seared Kobe beef, lobster tempura, avocado, soy wrap, fried shallots, melted Gruyere and eel sauce — or any number of classic rolls. Non-sushi entrees and a full bar, too! Open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 pm., then 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., then 4:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 4:30 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., then 4:30 to 9 p.m.. Peking Media Restaurant

Make sure to ask for the Japanese menu to take in all the sushi! A la carte, hand rolls, vegetable rolls, and for those who prefer cooked: non-raw rolls. The winner? It’s a tie between king crab leg California roll and jumbo roll (futomaki), which is as the name states: bigger than the rest! Full Chinese menu is also available. Open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

6 W. State St., Media, (610) 892-0115.

Koy Restaurant

Simply put: The selection here is vast. Let’s give a nod to our vegetarian friends with these creative selections: green caterpillar roll made with avocado, cucumber and an assortment of veggies, and a sweet potato roll. (Spoiler alert: That’s our go-to.) Check out the signature rolls and combos, and for those who don’t indulge in sushi, a full menu that also includes Vietnamese delicacies. Open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; closed Tuesday.

Give the spicy maki (makizushi, sushi’s proper name) a taste; it’s all of your favorite rolls mixed with spicy mayonnaise. Must try: spicy salmon crunchy avocado roll. Open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and then 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m.; closed Monday.

This menu boasts authentic Japanese dishes, including not-your-average rolls. Among the creatively named and equally tasty options are the 007 roll of shrimp tempura, mango, cream cheese and avocado inside of salmon, spicy kani (crab) crunch mix, tobiko (flying fish roe) and eel sauce. Wow! The full menu also does not disappoint. Open Tuesday through Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch, Tuesday through Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 to 9 p.m.; closed Sunday.
