We did a full rundown on ethnic specialty markets where you can score finds from Africa, Armenia, Asia, Europe, India, Italy and the Philippines. Since staycations aren’t just for summer, we’re suggesting the following must-try items to try at home at any time during the year:
Uncle Mussa’s Grocery: Try one of Africa’s most versatile staples, cassava, a starchy tuberous root, that adds depth and a wonderfully thick consistency to soups and stews.

Take it Easy with Takeout or Reservations
You can’t hardly turn a corner in Delco without running into a restaurant serving up authentic ethnic cuisine. Not up for cooking? Want to be treated? We covered the county’s bounty in two melting pot blogs and even we were amazed by the variety: African, Asian, Central American (Honduran, Salvadoran), Greek, Irish, Italian, French, Jamaican, Japanese and Northern Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Shanghai, Thai and Vietnamese. There are only so many mealtimes during your staycation, so consider these not-your-ordinary finds.
El Cuscatleco Pupuseria Y Restaurante: Find Central American fare galore, but save room for Ecuadorian favorite seco de chivo, goat stew served with rice. Yes, goat!

Hanrahan’s Irish Pub: There’s a nice mix of Irish and American eats to satisfy everyone. And while this doesn’t fit into the “not-your-ordinary finds” category, it is particularly delicious: Irish with bangers and mash, authentic Irish sausage paired with mashed potatoes, homemade gravy and sauteed onions.

Coconut Breeze Cuisine: Feed the whole family with a Jamaican family meal. Oxtails are cooked low-and-slow and come with three sides. We suggest steamed cabbage and carrots, fried plantain and cornbread.

Tom’s Dim Sum: Shanghai for the win! Dim sum are smaller snack-sized bites so you can fill your belly with dumplings, shumai and buns from the extensive vegetarian, beef, pork and fish offerings.

Viman Thai Cuisine: There isn’t only vegetarian food here, but if that’s your jam, or if you’d like to branch out, then indulge! Choose cashew nut, cashews, onions, scallions and bell peppers sauteed in a light brown sauce.
