Whether your idea of fall fun is picking apples and decorating pumpkins, or descending into the terror and mayhem of a first-rate Halloween attraction, Delco has you covered!
FOR THRILL-SEEKERS: The Bates Motel & Haunted Attractions at Arasapha Farm
One of America’s top-rated haunted attractions is not for the faint of heart! Here are three ways to embrace the Halloween madness:
- Check into Bates Motel. Your room has been waiting for you.
High-tech special effects, stellar actors and realistic props make your stay at the motel a truly immersive experience. Watch as spirits levitate and even the floorboards come to life. Are the eyes in that painting following you around? You bet they are!
- Take the Haunted Hayride (if you dare).
This heart-pounding 25-minute ride takes you on an immersive trip through the dark forest surrounding Arasapha Farm. The experience is action-packed, with numerous actors in professional makeup and 25 scenes, including a full-scale mock-up of a New England church and a 200-foot-long cave.
- Step into the maze. You may never leave.
You know that prickly feeling at the back of your neck you get when someone’s watching you? It’s around every corner on the Revenge of the Scarecrows Haunted Trail. This corn maze comes to life after dark, with animatronic monsters, walk-through buildings and — wait, did that scarecrow just move?
FOR FAMILY FUN: Linvilla Orchards
Rain or shine, you’ll never run out of things to do at Linvilla. Here’s just a few of the ways you and your kids can make the most of your outing:
- Find your fall paradise at Pumpkinland.
From mid-September through early November, it’s all about the pumpkins at Linvilla. Pumpkinland has been a Delco family tradition for generations. Piles of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes are on display, and entertainment includes live music, hayrides, train rides, pony rides and face painting. Pick your own apples or navigate the corn maze!
- Get up close with the animals.
Linvilla’s barnyard is positively bustling with animal life, such as white-tailed deer, calves, horses, sheep, pot-bellied pigs, geese, ducks, peacocks and more — including five goats with playful personalities. For a different kind of animal encounter, go fishing at Orchard Lake. It’s stocked with trout, striped bass, crappies, bluegill and catfish through November. No fishing license required, and rods and bait are available on site!
At the Playland Playground, kids can run and play on giant wooden play structures — shaped like trucks, boats, tractors and trains — that invite littles to let their imagination thrive. A Little Pumpkin Play Area lets kids under 5 explore safely.
For a Halloween outing that’s fun for young kids, try Hayrides to the Witch’s House, which run in September and October. There are no ghosts or scares — just a friendly witch with jokes and stories and a treat at the end. After the ride, roast marshmallows around a campfire!
